And I'm not talking about crappy little ebooks either. This list includes classics like Pride and Prejudice, Les Mis, etc. :)

All the books are out of copyright, as the authors have been dead for more than 50 years. If you already have a Kindle, or an e-book reader programme on your PC or laptop, it's a great way to line up some free reading. Another thing to bear in mind is that lots of new authors are prepared to release free versions of their books. Definitely worth keeping a look out.

I did exactly that when I got my Kindle. I'd never read Pride & Prejudice (or seen the movie) until last Christmas. I have been reading a LOT since I've gotten the Kindle and most of the books are older, free ones. I don't have a decent library around, so it was pretty nice to be able to do that.

As for free books. I know there are some tech sites that offer free books from time to time. OReilly Media comes to mind.

That's a nice collection of books. I have read most of them except for Walden. Walden just so happens to be on my to-read list. Thanks!

If you have a Kindle, you can get more books than you'll ever have time to read, absolutely free from Amazon. Go to bestsellers, pick a genre, and then scroll. The left side is bestselling paid books but the right has the bestselling free books. You can do this from the main page, too, but you'll find many more books doing it genre by genre. I do this once every week or two and load up my Kindle.

Such a great list here, jessi. I haven't read most of these but heard good things about them. I've bookmarked it for when I have time to start one.

Thank you very much for sharing that information. Many of these books and you can get elsewhere, but it's nice that they are all grouped together in one space. Maybe in that way the interest is awakened in many people for this kind of literature. Classical literature, still retains some magic, for that reason it is important that everyone has access to it, and the e-book is an essential tool in this regard. Surely I will choose one to begin reading. :D
