When traveling abroad, whether it is a taxi or hotel car that will bring you from the airport to the hotel, the cost is definitely expensive. That’s usually the mistake of first time travelers. On our first trip to Singapore, we availed of the airport pickup by the hotel car. But on our next travels, we have learned that lesson so we came prepared. There are buses and trains in the airports with standard cost. Our trip to Japan last week was very good because we were able to take the train from the airport to our hotel and the same way in coming home. If we had taken the taxi, the 1 hour ride would have cost us an arm and a leg, so to speak.
Not all airports have such facilities I am afraid. A bus stand is located way far away from the airport premises and to reach it with a heavy luggage you may have to walk a very long way. Usually areas/roads around airports are quiet so there is a high chance of being robbed. You can however, take a cab or an auto to reach the bus stand. Trains are even rarer near the airports in all the areas that I have travelled.
The more facilities you take from the boarders, the more will be the expenses. Once we were in a hotel which had cab facilities for local sight seeing. Ignorant, we availed it to pay almost double the actual fair. A lesson learned never to repeat it again. However, in a new place when you're not aware of the local conveyance, you need to avail hotel cabs.
