This may sound funny but using a chamber pot saves water. A chamber pot is any bucket or pail with a cover that you use for urinating at night. Imagine if you go to the toilet 3 times at night then that means 3 flushes. But with a chamber pot, you only flush the toilet once in the morning when you wake. Aside from saving water, aged people who have difficulty of sleeping again can avoid losing sleep when going to the bathroom by placing the chamber pot beside your bed.

I see this commonly used in villages and areas where water or toilets are scarce.

This is also a common practice while travelling in bush where the environment may not be safe and water may not be easily available.

It does help the elderly and helps save water.
