Learning by Doing: Finance I wrote a few essays on financial consequences of urban decisions in college. That is frankly just about as far as I had on my own to learn about credit cards. In school I found it hard to like finance as a subject, so I was really happy to not learn them as school children. It's due to the limitations one can do as school children in terms of personal finance. Certain ages are required to access certain financial services. Parents are partly responsible, to a certain age, to educate their children on things that they know about finance. But if I could change anything, I would want to be more interested in finance from an early age.
