Most banks allow you to open an account at no cost. Some of them don't charge any maintenance fees for such accounts. Some people advice that you need cash for minor ailments, the occasional headache or sleeping pill. Since most people normally don't budget for that kind of thing, is it better to have a health savings account from which you can withdraw cash to pay for medical costs not covered by your health insurance?
I have never heard of this and do not have one. I always used my regular checking account to pay for copays for appointments and prescriptions and other expenses. For me the other expenses, for OTC drugs, humidifiers and things of that nature have always been relatively nominal so I never saw the reason to set aside money for health expenses.
