This seems to be a common problem with cell phones in particular - the upgrades tend to cause a whole slew of problems. I really don't understand why these phone manufacturers cannot seem to keep their OSes up to date on all their phones. They keep coming out with all these custom versions of Android, for example, then just abandon them when a newer version rolls out. Or if they do push out an update, it's hastily thrown together and full of bugs.

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the Galaxy Note 3 when KitKat was made available for it. I heard the same issue others are stating on here, that it suddenly started killing their battery life. Strange thing is, I just bought a Note 3 that came with KitKat already on it, and it works fine. Not sure why the earlier versions of the Note 3 are now struggling with it.

I sort of regret it when my phone updates. I "sort of" regret it because I really don't have a choice when it updates. I've got an android phone so it just updates on its own and doesn't ask me first. It's pretty irritating, especially when a lot of things are changed.

I regret updating my iPhone 5 to iOS 7, it dies incredibly fast first of all. Also it made it unavailable to jailbreak which really sucks too. However some of the iOS 7 functions are cool so it makes up for it a little bit at least.

The only regret with updating is the Facebook app on my iPhone. It now constantly crashes and/or force stops. I wish I could undo that upgrade but its not possible.

I often regret updating my device, because it seems like as soon as I update my device, a new jailbreak or root renders my device's new firmware useless for rooting or jailbreaking. As a rule of thumb now, I update once a jailbreak or root comes out and only then.

I used to own a Nokia phone which was on the Symbian operating system. The only reason I had challenges or I would regret updating my device was because I would lose all of my phone contacts. Backing them up and then getting them back in the phone was always a challenge for me. So for this reason I really did not like upgrading my phone even though it was necessary for me to get different applications on. Apart from that I've never really had any issues with updating my devices.

Hi brother, I feel your pain. I've been in a similar situation once, or maybe twice: The only difference might be that mine actually made me cry. The one that readily comes to mind is an experience I had when I updated the OS on my Laptop. It was a Windows 7 Ultimate OS. After upgrading my system, I suddenly found out my system couldn't boot anymore. I struggled with the system for days, to no avail. I performed a system-restore; restore completed successfully, but trying to boot the system still failed. The thing that actually made me cry was that I was developing a School Management Software System at the time, and didn't have a fresh backup after adding some very weighty, and difficult to implement features to the app. It was like hell.

Well, I learned a very vital lesson of Data Backup on a continuous basis after that incidence; only I learned it the hard way.

I finally had to re-format my system and re-install application packages in order to continue with my development.

Yes, I have certainly been in that awful situation. I currently have an iPhone 5S, so the battery life is better than my old iPhone, but whenever I had my 4s, I tried to upgrade to IOS 8. It basically ruined my phone and all of the things that I enjoyed about my phone. I hardly used it during that period of time, which was actually kind of nice. I am learning to rely less and less on technology nowadays, so I do not plan on upgrading any time soon.

Nope, never. While I did update to some experimental builds before, I never regretted it, as I knew wht I was getting into, and more importantly, the fix was just a couple of clicks away. A perk of having an Android phone, I guess. :)

If you want a perfectly running device, then you'll probably regret updating OS versions as soon as the update is available. All operating systems are going to have kinks that companies don't know about until they're deployed to end users. Still, I don't regret updating because most of the features often work as they're supposed to, and that's what I want.

Yes, I have regretted updating plenty of my devices. I get used to how a lot of my devices' systems work, and when I am happy with how they are running, and then I am prompted to update, I am always a little bit cautious about it?? Sometimes I wait a bit, but usually they force you to upgrade after a while, otherwise your device begins to encounter problems soon after.

I don't know if I've just been kucjpky but every update I've done as worked exactly as it should. PC, PS4, android phone, they've all downloaded and installed quickly and worked first time.

I have heard alsorts of horror stories though, people losing alsorts of items, I don't know if this is due to human error or software glitches.

Biggest advice is always back up before you install an update. Just in case...

I recently updated the Whatsapp application on my phone!!! Usually when I update that application, everything runs smoothly. But I updated it about two or three days ago, it grew laggy and was freezing my phone in certain instances. It still is. Now, there is no way to revert to the previous version, unfortunately. So I am forced to have to wait until they release an update to fix this problem.

I won't run an update until I find someone who has done the update and play with their device. I've saved myself a lot of hassle and headaches that way because I learned that I didn't like the update before it was on my device.

Yes, I did. Firstly, I have to say that this is a great question, because I see that I'm not the only one that realized that a newer OS isn't always the best for your phone. In my case, I updated my Nexus 5 a few months ago to the latest Android version (5.0 Lollipop) and after a couple of days I noticed that my phone it's not moving as smooth as the older Android version (4.4.4 KitKat). I felt disappointed because I had high expectations regardin the new OS. I wasn't satisfied and after a month or so, I rooted my phone and I managed to downgrade my phone and I'm very happy now.

At times, I had not choice but had to update to the latest versions of some new software, and I didn't take to it lightly. It always takes me a while to find my way around the new features and outlines. Occasionally, they offer a temporary service where you can still use the old version for a while until you get the hang of the new one. And I always use it until the last moment.

Hmmm. I like this idea. It's smart. I'd do it this way, but I don't have that many people who would let me mess with their phone like that. Perhaps they are hiding porn on their devices lol. Also, I have found that some updates operate differently on different device models. So it may be hard to get an estimation on how the update may perform on your own phone or device.

I don't own an iPhone so I never had that issue but I did have a lot of regrets 'upgrading' my old Android phone to a Windows Phone 8. It's more like a downgrade than an upgrade actually.

Android phones always require you to upgrade your apps and though I was amenable with this practice at first, over time it got very annoying. I had to upgrade everything so the rest of the apps will work. For instance, I couldn't use my Hangout app until I upgraded the Google Play Services app. Facebook had to be updated so that I could access Candy Crush through it. Sigh. If only they just cut back on the updates to quarterly. I'm getting updates every week and it's preventing me from enjoying my phone.
