Most of the people I know are using sugar to sweeten their drinks or food since it's less expensive than honey. On the other hand, honey is much healthier than sugar but it's more expensive. I lucked out and found a local beekeeper that I buy my honey from so I get a better price than in the stores. I'm still using sugar but to a lesser extent. Which one are you using and why?
I use sugar but I do like honey as well. The only thing I dislike about having honey is because I'm not the only one who is living in the house and everybody can use the honey but not everybody will keep it well. I often find it sitting on the table with ants around so it really pisses me off. I stopped buying honey and stick with sugar as I have a special place for storing the sugar.
Sugar for me anytime because the lady I live with likes baking and most of her recipes require sugar as an ingredient. I know someone can use honey as a substitute but the last time it was used in cake-making, the taste and flavor wasn't that great. From the lady decided to stick with sugar for all her baking. Since she's the one who does most of the shopping, she buys sugar and I too, must use it to sweeten my coffee or any other drink.
I use honey to sweeten some things, like tea. I still use sugar for a lot of things, though. It might be nice to make a healthier switch, but I'm just so used to it that I never even think about not using sugar.
I like real sugar though honey is better, it doesn't blend well with everything. My alternative/transition is agave syrup. It's healthier than sugar but goes well with coffee. However, agave syrup can be expensive. My recommendation is to try a farmer's market or natural foods store for the best prices.
I have been thinking about trying agave, but I haven't done it yet. By the way, you can buy honey at Dollar General, and it's really cheap. it comes in the bear-shaped bottle with the yellow top. That stuff lasts forever but makes a mess no mater how much you clean and seal the lid lol.
Up until yesterday I was using sugar for everything, but I've decided to only have sugar now when I'm drinking tea and even then only half a teaspoon to take the bittery taste away.
When it comes to nutritional benefits of Honey vs. Sugar, you are comparing next to nothing with nothing. The only people who claim there are health benefits in eating honey are those who make money selling it. If you like it better, by all means use it. If you can get it locally - great. The amount you would need to eat in order for it to practically supplement nutrients would be excessive and cause more issues than it cured. I have both in the house and use honey and sugar for different things but I don't believe i am doing myself a favour selecting honey over sugar.
I like both honey and agave. Agave, you can find in other 'flavors' too, which is nice. And honey of course tastes a bit different from region to region. You may also want to try Stevia. It's an herb. It is really good, and you can cook with it too. I don't like any sweetener in any of my drinks unless of course, soda's if and when I have them. I have some caffeene free Dr. Pepper in the house now, but not always. I have baked bread with honey, and agave and stevia too. Not all at once, lol
