The new release of the iPhone is making me wonder if the iPhone is even worth it. Whenever there is a new release from Apple. There are only minuscule changes done to the iPhone. One the biggest changes this time around was that you can get your iPhone in different colors. Then you have the slight upgrade of the camera and hardware. Am I the only one that remembers when Apple released a iPhone that just had a software upgrade? Why do we still buy into the fad when there is nothing really new? Do you guys still think the iPhone is worth it?
iPhones and iPads are quickly turning into the macbook line, as far as design and specs are considered. They aren't even really naming them (at least iPads), I don't think it's long before we'll be calling it the "Late 2014 edition iPhone" and marvel at the 10% performance increase from last year's model. To be fair, there really isn't anything they CAN do. It's kind of a stale concept. Every year they slap on a new wacky thing like the fingerprint sensor and get away with saying how it's revolutionary and changes everything again, and leave the rest pretty much the same. In terms of whether it's worth buying one... well, they still have pretty high resale value.
The resale value is high because it is "new" and the fan boys go insane. Apple makes a small upgrade while other companies make major upgrades. Yet, Apple continues to do well in sales when the only thing that is changed is the color.
I agree. IPhones do have a higher resale value because one of the reason for that is the build-quality. Apple does very well because it makes high quality IPhones, which most of them are made of metal or stainless steel.
I think back then, when they were pretty much the only high performance phones available, it made sense to spend so much for them. Nowadays, however, with the tons of other options, it doesn't seem too practical anymore.
There's still enough of an audience of users that feel helplessly compelled to buy the latest release of every product they put out. It's all part of their marketing snobbishness. Not only do they convince people about feeling superior for having their products in the first place, but they also make them feel ashamed to be walking around with last years model too. Thankfully with the prominence of Android devices, and the bevy of cool features we are getting from Google, Apple can't survive alone on the "luxury" gimmick. Their botched maps application, was a shining example of how they are behind in terms of actual technology.
One point that I would like to make is that a more powerful phone isn't really necessary, its not like you are going to be doing some hardcore programming on that little screen or intense video converting on it anyways, and if you are resulting to using your phone for that kind of stuff then that's a little bit sad. the only real reason people do buy these expensive phones is because of the fad and the feeling to conform to society, its honestly not really worth it to buy a phone that exceeds ones actual needs for it.
Absolutely not. I don't think they're worth the hype as it is, but these "upgrades" are ridiculous. But that's just me.. I don't care about apps and touch screens and I find the navigation in most of these phones to be silly. The phone capabilities on the Iphone are a joke too, it's the worst camera I've used. My husband has one, not me. I would have returned it long ago if it were mine. Everyone is just buying the name.
I think the iPhones are worth it. I mean I just don't agree with those who keep purchasing them everytime they come with a newer model. That to me is pointless, because they all are going to be so similar.
I have an iPhone because I was swept up in the hype a few years ago. I'm glad I did it though because I got it out of my system. My next phone will be an Android.
Apple is somewhat of a con artist when it comes to technology, they make money because they make people who are uneducated about what they are using dependent on their products which they assume are better because of the premium price tag.
I agree. Apple's IPhones always charge a very high price, although I really don't see the reason Apple updates IPhones a little of things at the time.
I don't think that the Iphone was ever worth it- especially considering there are better phones out there for a cheaper price.
The thing is, you can't really compare the new iPhones to the old iPhones. If you want to ask if the iPhone is still worth it, you have to look compare it to the other non-iPhone smartphones. Just because a new iPhone has marginal improvements, it still means it has all of the other features that its predecessors have. So as the new iPhones continue to be released, they have more and more features while still retaining the same price point. Siri was pretty much the only big feature for the 4S (along with spec bumps), the iPhone 5 got a complete redesign (along with spec bumps), and the TouchID was the only big feature for the 5S (along with spec bumps). So given that 5S is the exact same price as the 4S when it first launched, it say the 5S is definitely worth it. Look at how little the original iPhone could do, and the cheapest launch price was $500 for 4GB. Now look at everything a 5S can do, with 16GB, and the cheapest price is $200. At the very least, the iPhone is a smartphone and an iPod. The cost of those two separate devices add up to be more than the cost of an iPhone.
