How do you eat your oatmeal? I eat oatmeal because I need carbohydrates and at the same time fiber. I have stayed away from eating pasta, rice and bread. So there's nothing left that I could substitute for a carbohydrates other than oatmeal. Well, there's potato, but it's different. And I just don't feel like eating it regularly. And because I eat oatmeal so that I'd maintain my weight, or to lose weight, I just eat it as it is after I have cooked it with boiling water. I don't add anything else. And then I would couple it with a banana. Oatmeal is always my main course for the day, and for each meal.
I go on oatmeal spurts. I like it with apples and cinnamon and nuts and a little half and half. I also like it with peanut butter and craisins. Sometimes I just top it with brown sugar - or maybe a few banana slices. I also add oatmeal to muffins, pancakes, and other baked goods, to make them heartier. I love oatmeal and I love how it is so healthy and so cheap. It is always a staple in my pantry.
I like my oatmeal with apples and raisins, too ! I chop up the apples, add the raisin, oatmeal and part of a teaspoon of cinnamon and cook the oatmeal. I sweeten it with a little bit of brown sugar or coconut sugar, which is similar to brown sugar; but a hint of vanilla in the flavor. I also add oatmeal to meatloaves, and if I am making home made bread in the bread machine, I like a little flax seeds and oatmmeal in the recipe. Since it has a lot of fiber, oatmeal is pretty healthy; but it is rather bland tasting unless you add something like apples and cinnamon to the oatmeal.
I like steel oats on the weekend. Wish I could eat them in the mornings on weekdays but I'm too on-the-go. I used to make a huge batch & refrigerate it in individual cups but the rest of my family ended up killing those before I could get to them.
I usually like to cook the slow way, but have you tried the Quaker Steel Cut microwavable ones? I did aLog In and honestly, they were super quick to make. Just nuke 'em for 3 minutes and 3 minutes to rest. They can get be cooking and resting while you get ready.
I eat a lot of oatmeal in the Winter time. It just seems to warm me up nicely. I just follow the directions on the box, then eat it with sugar and milk on it. Occastionally I will add a dice apple and use apple pie spice and sugar. I have eaten other hot cereals such as cream of wheat but oatmeal has just remained my favorite over the years. My kids won't touch the stuff!! But I do add it to pancake batter, all kinds of quick breads, muffins and cookies.
I like to eat my steel cut oats with cinnamon and raisins. I have added peanut butter to the oatmeal to help stick to the ribs a little longer. I add oatmeal to my muffins and pancake mix to give them more fiber.
Like one of the above posters, I go in oatmeal spurts. I can eat a lot in a short time and then won't have any for a while. In cold weather, I like steal cut oats in the crockpot overnight with fresh fruit so the oats are well cooked and soaked in water & the juice from the cooking fruit (usually berries or apples). In hot weather, I like rolled oats just soaked in water or milk. I put the oats and liquid in a container in my fridge overnight. Then in the morning, I add a little bit of raw honey and eat them cold like cereal.
I prefer instant oatmeals to quick-cooking oats because I'm often on the go. The package tells you that it's easy to prepare quick-cooking oats but in reality, the cooking takes 5 to 10 minutes. I also like the taste of instant oats better. You just pour the contents on a cup of hot water and voila... it's ready for eating in 3 minutes time.
I cook my oatmeal with semi-skimmed milk and a spoonful of strawberry jam. It's a great frugal meal (I don't eat it exclusively at breakfast time) and it's quick and easy to prepare. I never bother with instant oats - I'd rather save the money and wait a little longer for them to cook.
Oatmeal tastes good with vanilla and cinnamon. Sweeteners like maple syrup and stevia do not spike up your blood sugar level. I love to add coconut and carob too. You could also eat quiona, because it is very high in nutrients and not lots of calories. It is actually a vegetable and not a grain, like many people believe. You put twice as much water as you do quiona, and cook for fifeteen to twenty minutes.
I have tried them. They're not bad but it's my thang on the weekends to make oatmeal an epic event. It's like a taco bar for oatmeal for everyone. I usually make it in the slow cooker.
I just buy the little packs of instant Quacker oatmeal that come in the yummy flavors. I put it in a cup of hot water and drink it in the morning to fill me up enough to make it to lunch. Because I don't eat breakfast I find it handy and helpful in preventing me from over eating at lunch time.
Currently, I have been eating apple cinnamon with chocolate chips and roasted sunflower seeds. In the past I put marshmallow, walnuts, and raisins. I have to sweeten it somehow. Not the healthiest in the end, but provides the filling I need for the morning.
I like eating instant oatmeal with bananas on top but I also eat other kinds besides that one. Oatmeal is the best thing to eat for losing weight and it's heart healthy.
I love to oatmeal every single day. I definitely feel it is really nice to have oatmeal as it is really good for health. I have been eating it since like was six years old.
