Since the writers put in a lot of time for research, you can expect to learn a lot from personal finance books. I've not read any of those books but now that I intend to work towards saving as much money as I can each year, I want to leave no resource that can help me achieve my goal, untouched. Can you guys recommend some good personal finance books?
I would recommend books by Dave Ramsey, specifically The Total Money Makeover or Financial Peace. We went through Financial Peace University about 4 and a half years ago, and it is a life-changer. It just helps you change the way you think about and relate to money, and his ideas makes sense. It's never too early or too late in life to implement change with your finances, and he helps people at all different levels achieve their goals!
I don't see the point in using personal finance books, considering all of that information is readily accessible online free of charge. You'd be hurting your personal finances buying these books compared to just getting the same info for free and then utilizing that information to better your financial situation or whatever you're trying to accomplish.
I would second this. When I read the name of the thread the first thing that came to my mind was Dave Ramsey. I really think that the content that he has in his books are really some of the best personal finance information that you can get out there right now that is on the market.
I would think beyond personal finance books and look at books on investing. Personal finance principles are relatively straightforward once you've got the hang of them. I've read work from Suze Orman, Dave Ramsey, Antony Robbins etc and there's a degree of overlap. Read 'The Richest Man in Babylon', which is about 80 years old, and that covers the basics that all the others elaborate on. As for investment books, they tend to have more complex strategies that are worth going back to. For that read Benjamin Graham for insights.
