For larger items such as a home or a car, we tend to shop around for the best coverage. When it comes to insuring our other possessions, however, we often simply use the place that we go to for our other types of insurance. While sometimes you can save by bundling your insurance, this is not always the case.

The internet is a great resource to shop around for insurance. You can look at what is available and often fill in a few boxes and get an estimate. Talking to an insurance agent might be more hassle, but it can save you money in the long run. Many agents just sell broad policies and will end up costing you more. If you can locate an agent that will build a policy for your specific needs, you will end up paying for only what you need and will save a fair bit of money. For example, I do not need to be paying for flood insurance - even in the event of a great flood, I am simply not in an area that could flood. Earthquake insurance, on the other hand, would be more suitable.

Do you bundle or shop for a plan that s right for you?
