It's a good thing on Amazon's part. I think more stores should do the same, that way we get to shop and do charity at the same time without costing extra be it money or time and effort. I like Amazon and knowing this just increases my fondness of them.
I'm not stingy but fact is, most of these charities are not trustworthy. I'm yet to see what charities have done in places where their help is really needed. For example there is a charity organization that spends only 10% of the collections they make on programs that help needy people. They keep the rest for themselves.
There are definitely some charities out there that I wouldn't give a dime to, but there are also some very good ones. For example, the charity I'm supporting through Amazon Smile receives five million a year, and it spends almost all of that on expenses. The CEO of this organization makes 60k a year, a modest salary in this day and age, imo. If people want to find out the details of a charity, there's all sorts of good information atLog In . Well it's good that big shopping sites give back to the community... I just hope the money will go to where it is intended to be.
That's so nice of Amazon to donate a part of their earnings to charity. It didn't say that the prices will rise because you will give a donation, it said that the prices are still the same, so I guess they're really allotting a portion of their earnings to contribute to charitable institutions. I remember Ebay had this similar setup before when I was about to purchase an item, but in Ebay's case, you are asked to spend more if you want to donate.
