On my local news yesterday they asked this about Valentines Day if it was just considered a commercial holiday to some people. When you think about it, there is a whole lot of commercialism to the holiday and retailers do take advantage of it. However, I tend to think there is more to Valentines Day then just commercialism. I think if you in a relationship or married its a great day to be find the romance once again in your relationship. To show your significant other how much they mean to you. Perhaps that's the true meaning of Valentines Day a day to bring back some of the romance in your relationship and to have a reason to show consideration to the one you love.

It depends on what meaning you give Valentines Day in your life. It is definitely a great opportunity to focus on the one that you love. Then again, it is a great commercial opportunity for stores. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with that! Just my opinion...

My first husband always made a big deal of Valentine's Day, but he was a lousy husband the rest of the year. That really soured my view of the day, and the increased commercialism has done nothing to help that view. My second husband and I don't celebrate the day at all, and neither do most of the people we know. Our wedding anniversary is 11 March, so we prefer to celebrate then. We usually go out for the day and have a nice lunch, or if the weather is bad, we'll go out in the evening.

What relationship? What valentines-day? I must have missed it already, didn't know it was coming round. I used to be in a happy relationship and used to enjoy valentines-day but this year I was left out of it and never sent anyone a card either. :(

I'm assuming there's other people in the world who is as much as a sad twat as me? ;)

As for being a commercial event....isn't everything these days?

Valentines Day is one of the most important days of the year in my life. This year I was celebrating as a single person for the first time in a while, but I had dinner with a bunch of girlfriends and three of our moms. We had a blast! I handed out the kiddie style Valentines with a heart shaped lollipop attached and another friend gave everyone a lip balm. It wasn't all about romance, but it wasn't commercial either.

The 14th February means different things to different people. For some it is a chance to declare their undying love or celebrate their togetherness and for others it’s a reminder that they don’t have love in their lives. But more and more people are now protesting that Valentines day is a manufactured money-making venture by the card companies.
